Tayya Sugar Mills (Pvt) Ltd
Tayya Sugar Mills (Pvt) Ltd is a fully-integrated, environmentally sustainable sugar mill that operates at a capacity
of 2,000 TCD (tonnes of cane per day). The mill features a distillery of 30 KLDP (kilo liters per day) and a cogeneration plant, which is powered by bagasse and produces electricity. The project is designed as an integrated
farmer-based initiative, in which out grower farmers will supply the main raw material, sugarcane, to the mill for
processing. The integrated project includes a sugar mill that produces high-quality sugar, providing bagasse for the
co-generation plant and molasses for ethanol production in the attached distillery. Additionally, the by-products of
filter mud from the sugar mill and vinasse (spent wash) from the distillery are used to produce bio-compost
fertilizer. The project is planned for the Batticaloa District in the eastern province of Sri Lanka. The company will
produce the seed material for sugarcane cultivation in their own nurseries. The required sugarcane for processing
will be supplied by out grower farmers on a contract farming system within a 25km radius from the factory location,
covering about 4500 hectares of land. The sugar project comprises three major components, namely the sugar mill
complex and infrastructure, sugarcane nurseries (primary and secondary), and out-grower farmer development.
The project’s capacity is designed to accommodate 2,000 TCD sugar mill, 30 KLDP attached distillery, and cogeneration of 15MW with bio-compost production.
